Who can learn to Fly?
At least 16 years old to Solo – Training can start before 16
At Least 17 to receive a private pilot’s license
Able to read, speak and understand English
Pass Medical Exam is given by Aviation Medical Examiner
Pass FAA written exam that consists of 60 multiple choice questions with a score of at least 70%
What are the requirements for a Private Pilots License?
5 hours of solo cross country
Pass written test
Pass pre-solo written test
Pass oral test
Pass check ride/Flight Test

Minimum of 40 hours flight time
Minimum of 20 hours instruction in the plane with an instructor
3 hours dual cross-country training
3 hours night time training, including night cross country
10 hours solo
How long until I can fly by myself?
You’ll fly the airplane from the first day, beginning with the Discovery Flight. As your skills develop, you and your flight instructor will pick the right time for you to solo. Everyone solos at a different time; weather, skill, wind, and schedules all play a part in choosing the right time to solo.
Discovery Flight
On this flight, you will get to take the airplane’s controls and experience first-hand what it is like to fly. Our Discovery Flight is $50 and includes pre and post-flight discussions and a starter logbook. This flight time counts towards your Private License.
AIRCRAFT AND EQUIPMENT INFORMATION:
PIPER CHEROKEE PA-28-180
Not all airplanes are created equal, and this can be especially true for trainers. Your trainer plane can make or break you as a student pilot. 5B Aviation utilizes the Piper Cherokee PA-28-180. Piper designed the Piper PA-28 for training. Its all-metal, piston-powered, light airframe and low wings, along with tricycle land gear configuration, makes it ideal for pilots who are new to the skies.
REDBIRD MCX
Training from First Solo to Multi-Crew?. You can hone your flight experience and knowledge through simulated exercises with the State of the Art RedBird Simulator. The MCX includes a dual, control-loading yoke system and dual rudder pedals for simultaneous pilot and copilot control in addition to the impressive features found on other Redbird full-motion simulators. When you add this dual control system to the MCX’s wrap-around visuals, quick-change cockpit configurations, and extensive government approvals, the MCX becomes a truly powerful training tool.
RENTAL INFORMATION:
5B Aviation rents its single-engine aircraft for instruction for $130/Hour and Multi-Engine Aircraft for $235/Hour. This price is “wet,” meaning the rental rate includes all fuel and maintenance costs. Should your flight burn more fuel than the average fuel burn for your time, additional fueling charges may apply.
