Artist Tom Simonton
Rancher, Painter, Artist
Tom has had a fascination with the American West and Native American cultures for as long as he can remember. Time spent on his great-grandparents’ ranch near Duncan, Oklahoma helped nurture this appreciation.
He began painting over 40 years ago and sold his first Western painting at the age of 14. In his early 20’s, with a family to support, he attended classes in Graphic Art & Illustration and pursued a career in freelance illustration. He served as an adjunct instructor in illustration at the University of Central Oklahoma and was involved in the restoration of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
Although he works mainly in oils, he is also proficient in pencils and pen/ink.
Tom has been featured in Western Horseman magazine and has produced artwork for True West and Outdoor Oklahoma, among many other books and magazines. He created a series of approximately 30 illustrations for the “Mountain Series” of books by William W. Johnstone. In 2004, Tom’s painting, “A Blessing to All People” was presented to Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.
